Decay Cup

School project, CCA

2016

This cup is the result of a translation of form from physical, to digital, and back to physical. The process of abstracting and simplifying forms was intended to capture the idea of information decay in a singular object.

I began by melting a small cube of styrofoam with acetone, then scanning it into CAD. I then used a series of point-reducing commands to digitally simplify the geometry. I merged the complex and simple forms together, and 3D printed them to produce a small tea cup.
